And So It Begins! // February 2016 Update

Hola, amigos!

So far, 2016 has been jam-packed with travel, learning, and lots of new experiences. For the last week and a half of January, I was in El Salvador for a somewhat last-minute trip to visit my future missions field. This was my last chance to visit before I began raising support to move there. It was so great to see all my friends and catch-up with everything that has been happening at the Children’s Development Centers since I left last summer. Along with getting some quality time in God’s Word, I felt so encouraged by being amongst the community of people I will get to live life with every day when I move to El Salvador.

God has been doing some amazing things in the Children’s Development Centers. The centers were able to host their first classes for the year in the beginning of February, and God has also brought many new children to our program! I cannot wait to see God’s plans for the year unfold at the centers, knowing that many lives will be changed and many hearts reached for God because of His power and the obedience of those working in this ministry!

Not knowing the next time I’ll be able to return to El Salvador, it was extra tough saying my goodbyes to everyone this time around. Despite this, I left excited for the next stage of this process as I flew straight to Orlando, Florida to attend New Staff Training with Reliant (our missions agency) for eight days. A special gem of this trip was that my mom was able to meet me in Orlando for a couple days of vacation at Disney World before training! I loved spending time with one of my favorite people as I went into a busy and potentially overwhelming week.

As far as being busy and overwhelming, New Staff Training did not disappoint–but it was also full of the presence of God in some pretty awesome ways. Not only did I leave feeling prepared to embark on support-raising full-time, but I also met fifteen other missionaries who are on fire for God’s call in their lives to make a difference in His Church across the world. I loved hearing their stories and being reminded of the greatness of God in the process!

So, what am I doing now?

Right now, my full-time mission is to raise support for my move to El Salvador until I reach 100% of my monthly goal. I am still living in Columbus and I spend most of my time meeting with people like you. This has been a great opportunity to share my story and ask people to join us in supporting what God is doing in El Salvador. Although it has been quite the adjustment, I have loved using this process to talk to people about my favorite things: Jesus and God’s work in El Salvador! As far as when I’ll be moving, it depends on how long it takes to raise my monthly support. I am praying for God to provide for me to move in August/September of this year. I want to say THANK YOU-because your prayers, encouragement, and support are a huge part of making this possible!

Please consider giving. You can visit reliant.org/ali.howard and select “Give Now” to set up your monthly gift. Every bit helps!

Prayer Requests:

  • That each new child at the Development Center will adjust quickly and effortlessly.
  • For the first mission team of the year who will be serving at the Development Centers March 5-13. This team is from my church in Columbus called Rock City! Please pray their work will plant seeds in the hearts of those they encounter and that the relationship between these two churches will be strengthened.
  • That God will bring me to the right people to share my story with.
  • That our ministry team will grow in accordance with God’s will, so I can follow His timeline in my move to El Salvador.
