Happy Thanksgiving | November 2021

Hello! We hope that you enjoyed a relaxing and yummy Thanksgiving holiday. Here’s a peek at what’s been going on around here.

First, we want to extend a heartfelt “GRACIAS!” to each of you for your continued support towards the work we do with Great Commission Church San Salvador. It would not be possible without your faithful generosity and prayers over the years. As always, we give our thanks to the Lord for His provision over us, our families and all of you.

As Thanksgiving is not an official holiday here, many people do not recognize it. Despite that, the strong cultural ties between El Salvador and the United States inspires many Salvadorans to celebrate in their own way. Chepe and I enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving dinner for two at home after spending much of the day catching up with my family in the States. It’s also been quite windy here, so we even got to enjoy some sweater weather!

Youth Small Group

Apart from our weekly Bible studies, we like to do a monthly outing with our small group to foster community. This month was a big one, as we traveled to the Cerro Verde national park and made the hike up the Santa Ana Volcano, the tallest in the country. Did you know that El Salvador is nicknamed “The Land of Volcanoes”? There are twenty of them found in this small country!

CDI Updates

The kids at the CDI enjoyed two weeks of specialized tutoring and games to celebrate the end of their school year. Other than a few events and parties, the CDI will mostly be on break until January, coinciding with the students’ break from school. Please pray for the families during this time, that God would continue to protect them and provide for all the needs in their families. In December, we’ll be hosting some Christmas parties for the kids! Our small group committed to providing gifts for the kids aged 4-6. We’re really proud of the generosity of the young people we are doing life with here in San Salvador!

This week, we also received a special visit from Convoy of Hope in the Volcano CDI, celebrating a successful year of programming with some of the students and an entrepreneurship group for CDI mothers. We are so grateful for their partnership and generosity!

Prayer Requests

CDI families
That God would protect them and provide for them during the winter break from CDI. Also, that the kids would experience joy and wonder during the Christmas season!

Youth Small Group
For continued fellowship and growth in our group. We love being their leaders and ask for your prayers as we strive to be good examples and a safe place for advice for them.

Great Commission Church
The Christmas season is already in full swing here! Please pray that the plans for December programming would be edifying and encouraging for all church members.

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement, it means more to us than we could express in words!

Para Su gloria,
José and Ali
