Hello, I’m Ali!
I traveled to San Salvador, El Salvador for the first time in March 2014, and I instantly fell in love with the people, the culture, and the weather. Most of all, I fell in love with the work God was doing through Iglesia Gran Comisión (IGC) and their Children’s Development Center in an impoverished village on the side of a volcano. After returning home, I spent countless hours in prayer asking God to reveal to me what I was supposed to do with this new passion for serving Him by serving others. A few months later, I traveled back to El Salvador for another week of serving.
On our last day at the Center, I stood in awe of what I was seeing around me: the dozens of children running around playing with the other missionaries, and the local staff and volunteers engaging in fellowship with their guests. I suddenly became acutely aware of how small I was compared to it all. I thought of the enormity of the world, and how God was viewing us from Heaven in this tiny, beautiful country tucked away in Central America. In my head, I asked God: “How did I end up here? Why am I here?”. Since that day, I believed God has answered my prayers for direction and is calling me move to El Salvador to work full-time at the Center.
In December 2015, I went on staff with Reliant Mission and after spending eight months in full-time fundraising and training, I moved to El Salvador on October 25, 2016. Here I serve as the Missions Coordinator, planning most of the in-country logistics for the short-term mission teams that serve with us throughout the year. I am also the Child Sponsorship Coordinator for our two Centers, updating profiles to promote children for sponsorship and keeping our current sponsors updated.
Along the way, I fell in love with and am now engaged to my favorite person, José (but everyone calls him “Chepe”). We’re getting married in October 2019! Chepe is also on staff with IGC San Salvador and we love serving our Creator together and seeing people meet and learn to love Jesus.
As I seek out God’s will for me here in El Salvador, I am continuously working to leave my earthly desires behind a live a life centered on God and The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19). You can catch up on my life as a full-time missionary through this site!
