These are photos from my second trip to El Salvador in June 2014 with Rock City! This time, I was with a group of twenty people from Ohio. For three of the days, part of the team also went to a local high school in the city to talk to the students about hope and introduce them to gospel. It was great seeing a different side of El Salvador through the high school and interacting with older kids as well as the children at the CDI. My favorite part of this trip was getting to build on the relationships that were formed in March, and getting to see all of the children at the CDI again!
The whole group at the airport after we arrived. After waiting a little while because one of our bags of donations was lost, we finally made it outside to be greeted by Sarah, the missions coordinator from IGC, and our fantastic drivers for the week Gabriel and Francisco!
Working in the kitchen with Jenna and our sweet translator Ginna. A woman from the church who isn’t pictured here named Albi helps to coordinate all of the meals at the CDI when mission teams are there, and she definitely brings a ton of joy to the kitchen!
One of the home visits from the week. Cameron, Silvia, Michael and I all went to visit this woman’s home and talk to her about the gospel.
Hanging out with the girls at the CDI. It is always hard leaving these sweet faces.
Nelson, one of the boys who attends the CDI. He is a ball of energy, and is always laughing and ready to play with any of the missionaries who will join him.
Free time with Pamela and Rosita at the CDI.
Adriana, one of our translators and an amazing sister in Christ. It was great seeing her again after spending so much time with her in March!
Watching some of the boys play fútbol at the CDI.
Florence and Ginna, two of our local translators.
Silvia and Albi by the dedication sign for the playground our team built. The playground was dedicated to Carolyn Shonkwiler, who passed away in 2013 from breast cancer. It was amazing watching the Shonkwiler family work in her honor to bring such such joy to the children at the CDI.
The Shonkwiler family on the brand new set of swings on the playground.
The whole team by the playground.
All the kids at the CDI in the afternoon.
Clara taking her turn at the piñata during the party at the CDI.
The whole team by the playground with some of the local staff and a few of the older children who attend the CDI.
The children at the CDI thanking us for our time with them. Little did they know that they gave us so much more than we could ever give them in return!
Our team at the beach on our last day in El Salvador. Due to high tide, we couldn’t go into the water until evening, but it was worth it when we got to watch the sun go down on the beach.
